SSE goes to Delhi

Staff from across the School for Social Entrepreneurs global Network are currently gathered in Delhi at our global Network Forum. The forum is an opportunity for the SSE global team to build relationships with Indian partners and to share knowledge and best practice ahead of the launch of SSE India in December this year.

Globally, PwC has supported SSE by providing its experts as mentors to the programme, volunteering hours, bursaries, and in-kind contributions. PwC is now supporting the entry of SSE in India.

Elaborating on the PwC and SSE partnership, Neil Wilson, Chief Operating Officer, PwC India said, “PwC India through its Foundation has been addressing some of India’s fundamental challenges. We have committed to work in the areas of education, environmental sustainability, sanitation, issues of urban children, disaster response and of course—social entrepreneurship.

For us, this partnership is our flagship initiative in India. We believe that innovation at the grassroots will help solve many of the serious issues this country faces. It is with this belief, we decided to contribute in this area.”

During the forum, participants will meet with leading figures from the social enterprise community to develop an understanding of social entrepreneurship within an Indian context. Participants will also get a sense of opportunities and challenges faced by social entrepreneurs in India.

Participants include staff from SSE UK,  Canada, the new SSE India team and representatives from PwC India, British Council, Jagriti Yatra, Christian Aid and two Indian social entrepreneurs.

“Hosting the School for Social Entrepreneurs global forum in Delhi is a hugely exciting development for us. India is considered the home of the entrepreneur and there are already so many social entrepreneurs doing remarkably innovative things here, our presence is long overdue!

“We are in the planning stages of SSE India and are looking forward to building a foundation of knowledge that will help us refine our approach so it works the best it can for the Indian context. This event will help us ensure we give those with the potential to make a real lasting difference in their communities the support they need, when they need it most.”

SSE India plans to launch at the end of 2015 with the aim of supporting the first cohort of social entrepreneurs in Delhi by mid 2016.
