About the Programme

What is the Go! London Young Entrepreneurs Start Up Programme?
The Go! London Young Entrepreneurs Start Up Programme supports young Londoners (aged 16-24) in starting and growing sports and physical activity-based enterprises that positively impact young people in their communities.

What support does the programme offer?

  • Incubate!: 30 young people will develop their business ideas through workshops and support.
  • Grow!: 10 of these participants will receive a year-long support programme and a grant of up to £15,000.

Who runs the programme?
The programme is funded by the Go! London Partnership and delivered by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE).


Eligibility

Who can apply?
You can apply if:

  • You are aged 16-24 and have the right to work in the UK.
  • You live in London, and your project will primarily benefit young Londoners.
  • Your project increases young people’s access to sports or physical activity.
  • Your business is not yet established or is in the early stages (usually less than two years old with an income under £15,000).

What types of projects are you looking for?
Examples include:

  • After-school martial arts clubs.
  • Apps showcasing local sports initiatives.
  • Organisations promoting wellbeing through workshops and sports.
  • Sports clothing brands reducing barriers to participation.
  • Local sports leagues supporting youth safety.
  • Outdoor activity programmes connecting young people with nature.

What are the programme priorities?

  • Projects where all beneficiaries are in London.
  • Innovative and unique ideas.
  • Projects supporting underserved communities.
  • Applications from Black and minoritised communities, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people, and those outside mainstream education are especially welcome.

Programme Structure

What will I learn in the programme?
The programme includes workshops on:

  • Business model development.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Social/environmental impact.
  • Legal structures, marketing, income generation, and more.

What are the programme components?

  • Learning Sessions: Covering various themes related to business and leadership.
  • 1:1 Mentoring: Personalised support from business mentors.
  • Small Group Coaching: Facilitated peer support sessions.
  • Networking Opportunities: Events and connections with other entrepreneurs.
  • Funding: Grants of up to £15,000 for business development.

Programme Dates and Locations

When does the programme take place?

  • Incubate!: July – September 2025.
  • Grow!: October 2025 – October 2026.

Sessions will be held both online and in-person at central London locations. Dates and times are provided in the programme guide.


Funding and Grants

How much funding can I receive?
Participants can receive up to £15,000, with £5,000 available at the start and the remainder drawn down during the programme.

What can I spend the grant on?
You can spend the grant on:

  • Business setup and operational costs.
  • Paying yourself or others to develop your project.
  • Marketing, publicity, IT equipment, and sports kits.
  • Travel and subsistence costs.

What can’t I spend the grant on?

  • Non-business-related expenses.
  • Assets over £1,500 without prior approval.
  • Costs incurred before the grant was awarded.
  • Academic qualifications or driving lessons.

How do grants work for 16- and 17-year-olds?
Applicants aged 16-17 will need a responsible person to hold the grant on their behalf, as they cannot hold business bank accounts.

How do I apply?
Apply by 1pm on Monday, 14th April 2025, using our online application form. The form is short and includes options for voice recordings.

What happens after I apply?
You will be contacted for a 20-30 minute chat with one of our team members to learn more about you.

Are there information sessions?
Yes, sessions are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, 5th March at 1pm.
  • Tuesday, 18th March at 5pm.

Additional FAQs

Can I apply if my organisation is based outside of Greater London?
No, the programme is specifically for young entrepreneurs from Greater London.

Can I apply if I’ve been on an SSE programme before?
Yes, if your previous programme finishes before July 2026 or if you were previously unsuccessful in your application.

What if I have specific needs that may prevent me from participating fully?
We offer support for participants with disabilities or access issues. Contact Kate Hanley for more details.

Can I apply if I have criminal convictions?
Yes, unless you have unspent convictions for fraud or those affecting your ability to work with vulnerable groups. Relevant checks may be conducted.

How is my data protected?
SSE complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. Your information may be shared with funders and partners for assessment, monitoring, and regulatory purposes.
