It’s been some week. Zayn left One Direction (I’d never heard of him before he did), a man was sacked for punching a colleague, a prospective prime minister went all Stone Cold Steve Austin and a 15th Century king was reburied in Leicester. Wowsers. You don’t get many weeks like that in a lifetime. It doesn’t stop there though, as we’ve unearthed ten more sensational stories making headlines around the world. Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be quite a ride…
Alrighty! Today is International Happiness Day so I’m making an attempt to be extra chipper today. What is International Happiness Day? Now in its third year, it’s a United Nations-backed campaign calling for happiness and well-being to be given greater priority when measuring global progress. This year’s theme is around connecting with people, so I’d like to wish you a super Friday (which is always the happiest day anyway…)
Here’s this week’s news:
It’s Friday 13th today, so in the absence of me having anything else interesting to report here’s a fact for you to amaze / bore your colleagues with: fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia. This seems to be an almost unpronounceable word, but detailed further research led me to discover something even stranger; fear of long words is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. That’s just absurd.
So there you have it. Bit of a strange opening paragraph, but at least we’ve all learned something. Oh yeah – don’t forget it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday if you haven’t got a card in the post yet.

We have all heard horror stories of terrible Boards that occupy huge amounts of time – interfering with the day-to-day running of ventures, squabbling amongst themselves or bullying staff, demanding more and more information and taking the venture down pathways that were never part of the plan. We don’t want any of that! So here is some guidance to try and avoid any of these pitfalls.
