5 reasons to attend our Transition to Trading course

It’s less than a month until our six-day Transition to Trading course begins. If you haven’t confirmed your place yet, here are five reasons that we think that you should book your place on the course:

1. You will learn how to become less dependent on grants and earn new sustainable income for your organisation.

We will work with you to ensure that you understand the key issues and concepts in developing new income streams for your organisation (such as strategy, sales, pricing, marketing, customer analysis, demonstrating impact).  You’ll learn how you can start earning an income by selling your organisation’s services or products.

2. You will hear relevant case studies from expert practitioners from across the third sector.

We have carefully chosen a line-up of speakers that best illustrate how to make the transition to trading successfully. This year’s speakers include Georgie Fienberg (founder of Afrikids), Alana Cookman (Head of Cafes, Crisis), Tom Ravenscroft (founder, Enabling Enterprise), Fran Findlater (CEO, Bounce Back Foundation) and John Brown (Founder, John Brown Media).

3. You will form a strong network with other participants.

The course offers a great opportunity for peer learning and for collaboration with other organisations. Bookings so far have included Worcestershire Council, Salvation Army, YMCA and National Citizen Service.

4. You will feel more confident about your own leadership role.

Making the transition to traded income can be difficult. The course will ensure that you are well equipped to tackle the organisational challenges that you and your team are likely to face.

5.  You’ll have a lot of fun!

Courses at the SSE are designed to be enjoyable as well as being full of practical, relevant learning that you can apply to your organisation. We work hard to make sure that each participant goes home with a smile on their face!

Price: £750 (£700 for SSE students and Fellows).

Cursing computers: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

I’ve been having an IT crisis this morning, hence the lateness of this week’s Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You. At one point it looked like it would actually be quicker to come and hand deliver a copy to each individual subscriber, or to try and communicate it via morse code or something. I used my technical skills to invoke the drastic last resort of turning the computer off and on again but that didn’t achieve anything. It was so serious I almost gave up and went home. Then it seemed to fix itself, but now I can’t upload images to our blog.  Thank god it’s Friday…

Loads of good news this week, enjoy!

Longest way round is the shortest way home: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

CORNER TAB

Bit of a rush job this week as I had a meeting first thing this morning. What follows is therefore something of a stream of consciousness, a bit like James Joyce’s Ulysses. I somehow doubt that this mediocre round-up of social enterprise news will ever be heralded as the greatest example of modernist Irish literature, however. But I can dream…

Enough blathering, enjoy the week’s news.

Good news, Bad news: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

programming-583923_640Good news: After the brouhaha last week that at least one person on Twitter referred to as ‘sweargate’, I’ve just about held onto my job and Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You is back.

Bad news: You’re going to wish it wasn’t. I have got literally nothing interesting to say. Nada. I’ve spent all week looking at website code and deary me is it dull. I’ve had the verve sapped from me. The most exciting thing that happened to me this week is that my coffee was served to me by a chap called Walter this morning and I don’t think that I’ve ever met a Walter before.

I’d better stop now. This is desperate stuff.

On with the news…

Parental Advisory. Explicit Content: Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You

There’s no easy way to say this. This week’s Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You contains a swear word.  I’m sorry. It’s not language that someone as polite as me would normally use, but it’s the name of an event that’s taking place so it’s made it in.

I’m only warning you because last time this happened people complained and management told me that I wouldn’t be allowed to write this anymore if it happened again. I think the word ‘unprofessional’ was used, and if you know me you’ll know that’s only half true. So delete this now if you’re likely to be offended, otherwise let’s crack on the news…
