Sometimes there’s no need for gimmicks to dress up a newsletter, you can just let the news do the talking. This is one of those weeks. There is literally shed loads of stuff going on at the moment. “Dave, this sounds like you are trying to cover up the fact that you had nothing witty to write this week” I can hear some of you say. Absolutely not true. Absolutely not.

Each week after sending Have I Got Social Enterprise News For You my colleague Antonia replies giving me a score out of ten. I’m not really sure why, it’s just a tradition that we seem to have fallen into. She definitely has a future as some sort of critic though, or perhaps a school teacher. It also lends a certain frisson of excitement to a Friday morning, which is good.
This week Antonia, I’m sorry. It’s not a vintage edition. I’ve had one of those weeks where not much as happened. It’s not been a bad week, just a steady week. So go easy…
January is a long old month, isn’t it? It’s cold, you’re broke after Christmas, you go to work in the dark and then go home in the dark and your face takes a tone that Dulex would call ‘pallid grey’. But never fear, I’ve got just the tonic for you. This week I’ve spent every moment at my desk digesting a pile of self-help books, scouring online forums and watching motivational webinars to produce the definitive list of how you can become ‘a new you’.
Hasn’t that felt like a long week? I’m pretty confident that the first week of January has extra days in it, it’s the only rational explanation for why it feels like Christmas took place about six months ago.
January is of course the time for new year resolutions. Here are mine, which rather fortunately tie in with everything in this week’s social enterprise news. Spooky.

Today is the SSE staff Christmas party. I’d like to pretend that it will be a sophisticated soirée of cultured conversations and sparkling bon mots but I’m not that good a liar. Last year’s party took place on a Thursday with work the next day and by the end resembled a scene from Animal House – who knows what could happen on a Friday night?
