Have I Got (mainly SSE) Social Enterprise News For You – 11.10.13

by David McGlashan

This is very SSE-centric this week, but there is a lot going on at school at the moment.

Buying Social

Starting with a non-SSE link (although Suzanne is a very highly regarded expert on our courses), Suzanne Cleal is attempting to ‘buy social’ and to increase her own social impact.  It’s a great read so far, and will be interesting to see how it pans out in the forthcoming months.  You can keep up to date by following Suzanne on Twitter – @SuzanneCleal

Social Entrepreneur of the Year

If you follow us on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed that we’re in the midst of voting for the Social Entrepreneur of the Year.  The five finalists are soon to graduate from our Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneurs Programme, and the winner of the public vote will get a £10k grant to help scale their organisation.  If you haven’t voted, please do so – if you’d like to go the extra mile and send a tweet that would be hugely appreciated- copy and paste the below:

SSE London – Fellowship Start Up course

Our Fellowship course is now open for recruitment.  If you have an idea for an organisation or social enterprise that will benefit your community but need help setting it up, the Fellowship course is for you.

You need to register your interest before 5pm on November 14th.

Mayor attends graduation to congratulate SSE students

Students from across the network are graduating this week, and in Bristol the mayor turned up to give his support to a fantastic cohort of students.

Would you like to tutor a student?

We are looking to add to our pool of volunteer ‘tutors’ to work with our current students. While no specific skills are necessary, you will need to have the professional experience to help support an early stage organisation. An interest in social entrepreneurship is also a requirement!

You need to be able to commit to 3 meetings over a 9 month period. We will provide you with the support that you need to start working with the students.

If you are interested, please contact Antonia Taylor ([email protected]) or call 020 7089 9120 for further information.
