After last week’s record breaking mega-edition I’m keeping this brief, for three main reasons: 1. I was in Liverpool for a large part of the week at the Locality conference and wasn’t really paying attention to the news. 2. I don’t feel well. 3. I’m writing this at home on a laptop that I never use and the keys all seem to be in the wrong place. I KEEP HITTING CAPS LOCK for example.
But you don’t want to listen to me whining. It’s Friday, and you want to wind down for the week. So grab a cup of tea and take five minutes to read the news and relax. I’ll be in a better mood next week. Promise.

Once you’ve been on the bid workshop, put your new found skills to the test and apply for a Near Neighbours Grant. Grants of between £250 and £5000 are available for group and organisations that wish to “bring together neighbours, to develop relationships across diverse faiths and ethnicities in order to improve their communities.’
Next week is Alcohol Awareness week, and e-health social enterprise, Alcohol Health Network, led by London Scale Up Student Don Shenker, are launching their new Drink Checker web app for employers. The website is free for all employees to raise alcohol awareness at work in the run up to Christmas and includes a confidential drink test if you dare take it…
If you’re a social enterprise based north of the border, Social Enterprise Scotland are undertaking ‘For the Good of Everyone’, a consultation on the Holyrood 2016 Election Manifesto for Social Enterprise. Make your voice heard!
Sticking in Scotland, ER’s Dr Doug Ross (George Clooney, for younger readers) visited Edinburgh social enterprise Social Bite yesterday. It got an enormous amount of press coverage, which can only be a good thing for the sector.
SEUK and the Cabinet Office have teamed up to provide support for social enterprises who wish to export products or services. The scheme is called Exporting is GREAT (looks like their caps lock was playing up too!) and is well worth checking out.
This week saw the centenary of founder of SSE Michael Young’s birth. The Young Foundation hosted the Michael Young Centenary Conference to mark the event, and the Guardian published an interesting piece looking at Lord Young’s legacy and how it can be continued.
£180k is available to social enterprises in Plymouth as part of the council’s social investment programme.
Also in South West, the RISE conference will be taking place on Saturday 21st November at Bristol University. It’s got a super lineup of speakers, and tickets are only £15.50.
