Uh-oh. A lot of this week’s news is events taking place in London, I’m afraid. If you aren’t from London and want to quickly pass over the articles that aren’t of interest, I’ve handily marked them out for you using Cockney rhyming slang. This took longer to do than I thought it would.
In all seriousness – if you have an event / funding opportunity / article that you’d like promoted and you are outside of the capital, please send it over and I’ll try to pop it in next week.
- Is setting up your social enterprise causing you Barney Rubble? We’ve launched a new half day ‘Introduction to Legal Structures‘ workshop, which takes place on December 1st. If you know someone who it could be of interest to, please pass details onto them.
- Revolving doors at the Cabinet Office as recently appointed Civil Society Minister Brooks Newmark fell victim to a Sunday Mirror sex scandal and was replaced by Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East.
- You might want to have a butcher’s hook at arc, the BITC’s social enterprise support programme, which is open to ambitious social enterprises in London – you need to apply by 24th October.
- The MacRobert Trust are accepting applications for grants – applications are invited from across the UK but preference is given to organisations based in Scotland. The current round is open until 31st October.
- Would you Adam and Eve it? Speakers from Uber, Facebook, Change.org and Google will be telling you how you can ‘Run Your NGO Like A Start Up‘ at Google Campus on Wednesday 8th October. It’s free to attend. (It would of course be unfair of me to suggest that as Uber, Facebook and Google are involved with highly complicated tax avoidance schemes their first piece of advice may well be ‘find yourself a good accountant’. That would just be mean of me.).
- Congratulations to SSE North West Fellow Amy Cotter, who has won the ‘Enterprise Vision New Business of the Year Award‘ for her organisation Sensoriel.
- Looking for a new corn on the cob? Our friends over at Afrikids our recruiting an Events and Partnerships Manager.
- The government are planning on reviewing, and possibly extending, the scope of the Social Value Act.
- Our two day Leadership Development course with top business psychologists YSC is now available in Cornwall (7th November, 12th December)
- If that’s no good to you we are also running it in London (October 17th, November 25th). Cor blimey.
- If you have some spare Harry Lime, then current student Leonardo Greco is looking for a volunteer social media manager for his organisation IgniterHive.
- An interesting article by Dawn Austwick of Big Lottery Fund ‘Grantmaking for Social Change‘.
- Want to make some bread and honey? The Petit Miracles Hub is a new social enterprise retail space in West London. If you’ve got products to sell then you can express your interest in a space until October 10th.
- No need to sit in your cat and mouse on your Jack Jones on the 16th October, as Ashoka and Arthur Guinness Projects are hosting the ‘Makers of More Summit’, bringing together social entrepreneurs from around the world. It’s free to go along.
Have a good week!
