It seems to have been a little quiet on the news front this week (either that or I have been really inattentive). To supplement the usual goings on I’ve included some bits and pieces that you might find useful. This week I’ve focused on marketing, because that’s what I do, but if people would like this sort of thing more regularly I’ll expand it to other areas as well – reply and let me know!
This week’s social enterprise news
We are running a free taster session for our Trading for Sustainability course on August 14th. You’ll find out more about what the course entails, and also hear from Chief Executive of Global Action Plan Trewin Restorick, who will be sharing his story of how he transformed Global Action Plan into a financially sustainable organisation. Bag your spot here.
The very grand sounding National Consortium of Social Enterprises is a group of 600 social enterprises working together to win public sector contracts. It’s free to sign your organisation up, which you can do here.
What is a social enterprise? If you know the answer (and hopefully you do!), you can win £100 of travel vouchers courtesy of the Social Enterprise Mark.
Online journal London Loves Business has produced ‘Social Enterprise and Investment‘, an interesting overview of the sector (don’t worry, it’s not wholly centred around London).
Nominet Trust is looking for the ‘NT100’ – organisations that are using digital technology to tackle a social challenge. Last year SSE Fellow Roger Wilson-Hinds made the list with his app Georgie, which assists visually impaired people using smartphone technology. It would be fantastic to have another SSE Fellow on the list!
Trillion Fund and Buzzbnk have merged to create the UK’s biggest social crowdfunding platform. (If you are thinking about crowdfunding as a way of financing your organisation, Nesta have a handy guide.)
Useful Marketing Resources
This list is by no means exhaustive, but there is a lot of good content here:
How to prepare a marketing plan – even if you aren’t putting together a formal marketing strategy, you should be going through this checklist from Start Up Donut.
The Essential List of Start Up Marketing Resources – This was reccomended to us by an seo agency in gold coast, they stressed how, you could spend weeks looking at all of this, but if you are looking for a place to start learning about marketing this is really comprehensive.
How to write a press release – very useful article from the Guardian
Five tips for charities to rock their digital marketing – some good pointers here.
The Huge List of 127 Marketing Tools – using this list you could create your own marketing empire!

My brother recommended I may like this blog. He was totally right. This put up actually made my day. You can not imagine just how much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
